Baffour banned for 12 months for assault on referee
Richard Baffour, a player of Bechem United has been banned for 12 months by the Disciplinary Committee of the GFA for assaulting a match referee during a Division One League game with Tano Bofoakwa.
The player kicked the referee in his abdomen after he awarded a penalty against Bechem which sent him crushing onto the ground.
Bofoakwa were also fined for attacking innocent players of Bechem United following the assault of the referee.
Case: Protest by Bechem and Bofoakwa for causing abrupt end of match
Guilty parties: Richard Baffour, Bechem United and Tano Bofoakwa
Decision:
(i) That Richard Baffour for his violent conduct on the Referee, he is banned from participating in any GFA sanctioned activities for twelve (12) months.
(ii) That since his misconduct resulted to an injury to the Referee, his club, Bechem United FC. shall be held responsible and therefore the club is fined GH¢1,000.0 of which fifty percent (50%), that is, GH¢500.00 shall be given to the Referee, Richard Dziany to take care of his medical bills.
(iii) That Tano Bofoakwa F.C. shall also be held responsible for the unruly behavior of their supporters for taking the law into their hands and assaulted players of Bechem United. Accordingly, they are to play GH¢1,000.00 fine to the FA.
