Accra, Mar. 18, GNA - Leaders Medeama maintained their grip of the top spot over the weekend after the Week 18 matches of the premier league just as Hearts of Oak climbed further up.

There were no much surprises during a week that saw the leaders coming out unscathed and the only side to scoop three points off the feet of their hosts. Striker Godbless Asamoah scored the only goal as Medeama silenced King Faisal at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and go two points clear at the top.

Hearts of Oak proved too strong for struggling Berekum Arsenal, beating them 3-1 to maintain their momentum in the second halve of the season. Not even a goal from former Hearts kingpin Douglas Nkrumah could dent their second win in three matches as Romeo Agban, Esme Mends and Mahatma Otoo found target. For Otoo, it was a crowning moment ahead of maiden call-up into the Black Stars for the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Sudan at the weekend.

At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea kept the heat on Medeama by bringing Liberty Professionals down to earth with a 2-0 win. A goal in each half from Jackson Owusu and Bismarck Idan did the trick for the 'Blues'.

It was yet another nightmare for Bashir Hayford since taking over AshantiGold as they suffered a 2-3 loss to Ebusua Dwarfs at the Rober Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast. Dwarfs shot into a three-goal lead courtesy strikes from Eric Opoku and Richard Gadze before Vincent Atingah diverted a shot into his net to reduce the deficit. Opoku sealed his brace later in the second half before Francis Coffie grabbed a consolation for the Miners, but it was little late to earn them a point.

Newcomers Amidaus Professionals tasted their heaviest defeat yet in the second round after a 3-0 thumping by All Stars in Wa. Mustapha Mumuni, Baffoe Asuandze and Joseph Dampson scored for homers to aid their climb to ninth position.

Former champions, Aduana Stars proved unyielding to split points with Tema Youth in a four-goal thriller at the harbour city, Tema. Abass Mohamed and Emmanuel Boateng struck in each half for Tema Youth whilst Daniel Darkwah and Francis Larbi hit the back of the net for the 'Ogya' boys.

Heart of Lions' unfamiliar season continued following a 0-2 loss to Edubiase at Bekwai. Eugene Amoah and lanky forward, Stephen Manu found target for the homers.

Holders Asante Kotoko were not in action due to their participation in the CAF Champions League. The Porcupine Warriors have two outstanding games against King Faisal and Real Tamale United respectively. GNA
