Guinea : Already out of the race to host Afcon 2019?
Guinea is far from meeting the specifications of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), while applying for the organization of the coming edition of the African Cup of Nations of football in 2019, announced during the Press conference the Guinean sports columnist by Thierno Saidou Diakite and secretary general of the Guinean Federation of Motorsports.
From the outset, Mr. Diakité said that the Guinean government has indeed filed at the headquarters of CAF in Cairo, Egypt, a letter of guarantee, which confirms the willingness of policy makers to host the 2019 edition of the Afcon senior of football, it was announced.
Guinea must meet the requirements of CAF made in the terms of reference: “To organize an African competition, the CAF requires that the host country has four venues with international standards,” he said.
At this stage, Thierno Saidou Diakite said that Guinea has for the moment the 28 September stadium in Conakry and the stadium of Nongo 50,000 seats awaiting completion. “So practically, Guinea is far from fulfilling this requirement,” he said.
To hope to compete with Senegal, Nigeria, Algeria and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), also on list, Mr. Diakité suggests that authorities rely primarily on the Afcon Juniors in 2017.
Assessing the benefits generated by the festivities of the biennial African football, he released the preliminary “By then, we will have apart from the 28 September stadium in Conakry, the largest stadium of Nongo delivered. Until then, we will rehabilitate the stadium of Elhadj Saifoulaye Diallo Labe, which will serve as the second stadium of the competition. ”
Referring to the current state of the Guinean sports the weekly columnist La Lance explained that only the final phase of the Afcon senior can help the country to reduce the delay that it saves in terms of infrastructure.
“Additional works will be programmed as follows: the rehabilitation of the national Conakry-Labe and airport Labe, setting standard receptive Conakry and Labe, rebuilding stadiums of the Mission of Kaloum of 28 September, Bonfi who will act as the group who will be based in Conakry, “ he said.
From a technical standpoint, Thierno Saidou Diakite proposed, for example, the establishment of a committee of multi-sectoral organization, with the support of educating and the application of a sporting event in great detail, and develops the roadmap.
In the Interdepartmental Council on 12 September 2007, the Guinean government had then suggested the idea of organizing the final phase of the great continental competition in 2016.
But after this verbal announcement, successive governments have not bothered to get involved.
It is only in the advent of the new Head of State, Alpha Co ndé ; the New Guinean authorities took the decision to leave the file in the drawer for the update.
The current government has deposited at the CAF, a letter of guarantee, which confirms its political will.
A remember that Guinea has never held an African Cup of Nations of football nor win.
