Ben Koufie Lands CAF Position

The beleaguered chairman of the Ghana Football Association Mr. Benjamin Koufie has been appointed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to its Ad-Hoc committee at a time my pundits believe he is heading out of office. The appointment was announced by CAF last Monday during its executive committee meeting at the organisation’s headquarters in Cairo. The Ad-Hoc committee has been set up by CAF to look into ways of developing football across the continent and also to make sure that CAF’s $1million to every football association in every World Cup year is put into football development on the continent. Other members of the committee are Rachid Mekhloufi (Algeria), Said Amara (Algeria), Nabi Camara (Guinea), Kamal Sheddad (Sudan), and Hani Moustafa. Experts of the game in Africa see the appointment of Ben Koufie as his reward for stepping down for Dr. Amos Adamu during the CAF elections for an executive position in Mali nearly two years ago. Koufie later told journalists that he was urged to stand down by the leadership of CAF who strongly supported Dr Amos Adamu’s candidacy, which is now being strongly challenged by Abedi Pele. Koufie’s appointment will bolster his claim to a second term at the helm of the Ghana Football Association, after growing calls from the public for him to step down in the wake of the failures of the national teams as well crucial administration issues which were badly handled by the FA.
