The Black Maidens have qualified for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after beating Japan 1:0 in the quarter finals.
A 53rd minute goal by S Sumaila proved priceless for a side that was hugely underrated in the competition.
The Maidens will come up against France on Tuesday with either side looking at securing the final berth.
The Maidens were strong in defence and kept the Little Nadeshiko of Japanat at bay even though they had the better possession.
The Japanese, the tournament’s top goal scorers with 17 goals were yet to pick the ball out of their own net before they met Ghana.
But after the final whistle in Baku Friday afternoon, it was the Black Maidens who showed upper class.
Reaching the semi-finals is the furthest Ghana has come in three attempts at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Coach Mas-ud Didi Dramani however feels that his side can go even further.
After a difficult opening day 3-2 defeat to Germany, the Black Maidens bounced back with a 5-0 mauling of Uruguay before beating China PR 2-0 to finish as runners up in Group D to the Germans.
