Accra Milo Marathon Launched

The Managing Director of Nestle Ghana Limited, Moataz El Hout, has promised his company’s continual support for sports and to ensure that more talents were unearthed to compete for the nation in international competitions.

He said there was the need to produce a reservoir of talents to lead Ghana’s campaign at the next Olympic Games in Rio in Brazil in 206.

Mr El Hout said sports played a pivotal role in ensuring good life which his company stood for saying “we do not only produce good food, but in addition we organise and support important sporting events to underscore our ambition as the world’s leader in nutrition, health and wellness”.

He was speaking at the launch of this year’s 26th Accra Milo Marathon in Accra last Friday promising to distribute 1000 training boots to 20 schools in the Greater Accra, Western and Volta regions to help them prepare well for next year’s marathon.

Category Business Manager for Nestle Ghana Limited, Olufemi Akintola, said it is expected that at least 7000 runners would participate in the September 21 marathon which covers a distanced of 42.2 km while the distance for the U-15 has been reduced from 15km to 5km.

The prestigious event starts from The Point, Nungua in Accra, through some principal streets in the capital and ends at the Dansoman Keepfit Grounds.

The beverage company is expected to spend GHc 1 million for the event of which the overall winner takes home GHc 10,000 while the first and second runners up would receive GHc 7,000 and GHc 5,000 respectively.

The winner in the U-15 category, take home GHc 1,200 with the first and second runners up taking home GHc 800 and GHc 500.

The marathon is under the theme ‘Champions Run the City.’
