New Abirem, July 04, GNA - New Abirem Ladies Football Club defeated the Ntronang Ladies Club 2-0 to win this year's Republic Day Football Gala organized by Newmont Akyem Project for nine communities in its operational area at New Abirem.
The competition was aimed at fostering unity and cooperation between the communities and the mining company.
The winners received a trophy, a football and GHC 150, whiles the runner-up, the Ntronang Ladies, were also presented a trophy, a football and an amount of GHC 100.
The other participating communities included Afosu, Mamaso, Old Abirem, Yayaso, Adausena and Yaw Tano.
The Afosu Ladies team, which came third, received a trophy, a football and GHC 70, whiles Mamaso Ladies, which placed fourth, also received a football and an amount of GHC 50.
Ms Afia Ayitey, a Senior Communications Officer of Newmont, in an address to the teams, said the gals games were organised by involving all stakeholders to strengthen relationship between the communities and the mining company.
She commended the various teams and their supporters for the cooperation and tolerance, which had ensure peaceful and successful fun games.
