Boxing Federation boss demands refund from National Sports Authority

Accra, June 6, GNA - President of Ghana Amateur Boxing Federation, (GABF) Ray Quarcoo is demanding from the National Sports Authority (NSA) a refund of expenses incurred for the preparations of the Black Bombers' towards the London Summer Olympic Games.

Ray Quarcoo in a letter to Wolanyo Agra, Director General of the NSA and copied to the Chief of Staff and the Sports Ministry cited by the GNA Sports reminded the Authority to refund various sums of money he personally pumped into the preparation of the boxers with the consent of the latter.

"I am compelled to remind you that the Authority is obliged to reimbursed me with a total amount of ,600 for the 2011 International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) World Championship, Triangular Tournament and a training programme in Azerbaijan.

Ray Quarcoo is also demanding an additional 41,791.00 GH¢ plus £300 all spent during the Benin- Ghana tournament and the road to London events all aimed at preparing the boxers for the Olympic Games billed for July 27 to August 12.

'Of greater concern, you have ignored the ,000 I handed to you personally in the presence of the Honourable Minister. These monies were raised through bank loans subject to interest on what were contracted on guarantee that they will be paid as soon as government released our budgetary allocation.'

The GABF President said "even though some of the monies have been released by government, I am yet to be reimbursed and I am now burdened with payment of these loans with interest."

He further alleged that 'as you are already aware, the air fares and cost of living of the four United Kingdom-based boxers I recruited into the national team recently of whom one had qualified for the Olympics were at my own expense totaling £5,000.

'I have personally been paying the Secretary General assigned to the Federation, Dominic Kankam's monthly salary plus his accommodation for over a year now because the Authority has not yet absorbed him fully.'

Ray Quarcoo willed the Director General to create an enabling environment for key stakeholders to have trust and confidence in his administration.

Boxers Sulemanu Tetteh (46-49kg), Duke Micah (52kg), Isaac Dogbe (56kg) and Maxwell Amponsah (91kg) have qualified for the Olympic Games.
