No Tricks At Royal Club

THE ASANTEHENE, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the life patron of the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi, has debunked rumours that visiting golfers at the club are always cheated to enable members of the club to win competitions played at the place.

He stated that the 'notorious description' was having adverse effects on the Royal Golf Club as seasoned golfers that over the years travelled from all over Ghana to play competitions at the venue were refusing to do so now.

The Asantehene, who is a renowned golfer himself, stated that the notion that visiting golfers were cheated at his club was misconceived, urging golfers from across the country to freely visit the place and compete for top honours when competitions are being held at the place.

Otumfuo said that so far as he remained the life patron of the Royal Golf Club, he would ensure that the rules of the game were applied to the letter without any bias when tournaments were played at the golf club, charging the president and captain of the club to ensure that fairness reigned supreme at the club always.

He was addressing scores of golfers drawn from all corners of the country and beyond during the trophy presentation ceremony of this year's Asantehene Gold Cup Golf Tournament played in Kumasi over the weekend.

The Asantehene said the fact that the winners in the male and female categories of the tournament were won by golfers from Achimota in Accra was an indication that Royal Golf Club did not adjust figures to favour members of the club during contests.

He observed that golf as a sport promoted integrity, honesty and transparency, key traits that human beings needed to make it in life.

The Asantehene who confessed that he enjoyed playing golf early in the morning, announced that MTN had decided to sponsor the Asantehene Gold Cup Golf Tournament for the next five years.
