Golden Sticks Down Exchequers

Ghana’s former representatives in Africa, Golden Sticks, featuring a chunk of old guards, made use of their rich experience to subdue a relatively younger Exchequers team 2-0 in last Saturday’s NDK Hockey League at the National Hockey Stadium in Accra.

The win moves Golden Sticks of the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) to the third position on the log on four points behind Exchequers (seven) and CEPS (10).

Exchequers had a better of the exchanges in both halves but were goal-shy and a bit lethargic in defence as Golden Sticks made use of the two chances that came their way.

Playing without their talisman, Joseph Appiah, the GCB lads opened the scores through enterprising Elikem Akaba in the first half, while defender Daniel Abadio made it two midway into the second half from a short corner.

Even after taking the lead, Golden Sticks had to sit on tenterhooks throughout as Paa Nii Sowah blocked a goal-bound shot on the goal-line to deny the Central Bank team from scoring at least a goal.

CEPS male team pushed their points build-up to 10 after accounting for Police 1-0 courtesy a perfect finish from Ebenezer Frimpong.

Reformers of the Ghana Prisons Service produced a shock result beating defending champions Trustees 2-1, while Extinguishers drew 0-0 with Reformers Ladies.

Predictably, Veteran lost 2-5 to Citizens, while the SAPHOLDA versus NDK Financiers match has been rescheduled for tomorrow.
