Emmanuel Baffour took his goal tally to 21 on Sunday in the Glo Premier League after helping New Edubiase beat Hearts of Oak 2-0 in Bekwai.
The league's top scorer is now a goal shy of the 11-year record set Ishmael Addo in the 2000/2001 season.
Baffour, 23, has now scored 21 goals from 26 games in the league and has four matches left to equal the record or set a new record.
And he scored the opener three minutes after the break he connected from a freekick.
Basit Adams doubled up for Edubiase in the 73rd minute to leave the Phobians at third on the standings.
