A Bolton statement said:  http://www.bwfc.co.uk/page/General/0,,1004~2673101,00.html “His heart is now beating without the help of medication and he is also moving his arms and legs.

“However, his long-term prognosis will remain unclear for some time.

“He is still critically ill and will continue to be closely monitored and treated by staff in The London Chest Hospital's intensive care unit.”

The midfielder, 23, has been at the hospital's heart attack centre after suffering the cardiac arrest during Saturday's FA Cup tie at Tottenham.

Bolton chairman Phil Gartside and manager Owen Coyle visited the player on Monday morning.

Muamba's fiancee Shauna Magunda, the mother of his son Joshua, has thanked well-wishers for their support.

“Where there is life there is hope,” she tweeted  https://twitter.com/ShaunaMuamba/status/181545873065512960 on Monday.

Muamba was born in Zaire, now Democratic Republic of Congo, and moved to England aged 11.

DR Congo FA President Omari Selemani said: “On the behalf of the Congolese FA, all the Congolese people and myself included, we express our sympathy to Fabrice Muamba.

“We can assure him that all the Congolese people are following closely his situation.”
