Liberty Professionals head trainer J.E. Sarpong's audacious statement in a post-match interview that he wouldn't be surprised to see a referee shot has stoked controversy in the sporting circles.

Consequently, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Ethics Committee has extended an invitation to coach Sarpong to make himself available for questioning on the matter and necessary action on March 20, at 3.00pm.

But the coach has stated categorically: 'I am not afraid of anything. I will go and face them. I am speaking on behalf of many coaches who have suffered similar fates.

'What some of the referees are doing is to the detriment of the development of football, and it is not helping the game. They shouldn't forget I am the coordinator of the Ghana Coaches Association,' he noted.

'There is nothing new under the sun, it is only stones that do not perish, everybody will visit the ancestral world, so I'm not afraid,' he added.

The Liberty trainer is alleged to have made some unethical comments about referee Awal Mohammed who handled their game against New Edubiase at Bekwai.

Liberty, who were numerically disadvantaged as a result of defender  Isaac Sackey being  red-carded,  drew 2-2 after a commanding 2-0 lead.

Liberty are placed ninth with 26 points on the league log.

From Kumasi I.F. Joe Awuah Jnr reports that Coach Sarpong has noted on Angel FM in the Garden City that he still stands by his statement that a referee would be shot one day in Ghana.

He said he would go and face the Ethics Committee of the GFA, stating emphatically that even if he was summoned before a Criminal Court he would go and substantiate his claims.

Coach Sarpong said he was not new to suspension, recounting that he was once suspended by the GFA for one season but he returned from the suspension to win the prestigious best coach award the following season.

He said he was a Physical Education Tutor, therefore even if the GFA decided to suspend him from football he could easily direct his attention and energy elsewhere.

Coach Sarpong wondered why the GFA had decided to invite him for questioning for saying his mind asking 'did anyone invite Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo when he said 'All Die Be Die?'.'
