Gyan Remains Best Kicker - Kwesi Appiah

Black Stars' assistant coach, Kwesi Appiah, has said that although striker Asamoah Gyan missed Ghana's penalty Wednesday, “no one can stop him from taking the kicks for us, because he remains the best.'

He noted it was the second time the player had missed crucial penalties to determine the fate of the team but said “sometimes, it is the best players who also miss the kick.”

Ghana had an eighth minute penalty against Zambia in the semi-final match in Bata, Equatorial Guinea Wednesday but Gyan intercepted Dede Ayew's move to effect the kick and eventually wasted it.

A similar incident happened during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where after then captain Stephen Appiah had elected himself to take the kick against Uruguay, Gyan again denied him the opportunity and eventually wasted it.

It was on that basis that journalists asked the assistant coach whether the player could still be allowed to effect penalty kicks.

Gyan himself could not be seen at either the press conference or the mixed zone and coach Goran Stevanovic continue to swerve the media for questioning.
