Aseseeso Presby schools receive computers
Aseseeso (E/R), Feb. 7, GNA - Mr Kwasi Ohene, General Manager of Light Academy at Adenta in Accra, on Tuesday donated computers and accessories to the Aseseeso Presbyterian Primary and Junior High schools.
Mr Ohene said the donation forms part of the collaboration between Light Academy and the schools to promote teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
He said although ICT had been added to the syllabus of basic schools, the unavailability of computers, especially in rural areas, made teaching and learning of the subject difficult.
“I believe that this small donation would go a long way to assist the teachers and school children in the teaching and learning of ICT as an examinable subject,” he said.
Mr Ohene appealed to teachers to enhance their knowledge in ICT to be able to teach the children effectively to enable them to pass the subject during the examination.
He said it was the intention of Light Academy to team up with stakeholders of the schools to improve teaching and learning.
The Headmistress of the schools, Ms Janet Bampoe, thanked the management of Light Academy for the donation.
She said although ICT had been added to the syllabus at the basic level, the school had no computers and so the teachers concentrate only on the theoretical aspect of the subject and leave out the practical part.
A circuit court judge and a member of Citizen Forum of Aseseeso, Mr Ayisi Addo, who accompanied Mr Ohene to the function, expressed concern about the mass failure of Basic Education Certificate Examination candidates in the area.
Rev Charles Oduro Kwarteng, Minister in charge of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Aseseeso, also thanked Mr Ohene and urged other individuals and institutions to assist the schools.
