Black Stars and Olympic Lyon libero John Mensah has breathed life into his Obuasi-based fun club with an official inauguration amid wild celebration on Boxing Day.

It was a beautiful spectacle as many thronged the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium to witness the much-talked about official inauguration of the John Mensah Fun Club.

And with a population of a little over 100 persons, the members, clad in beautifully-customized John Mensah 'T' shirts, danced to a musical performance by gospel musician Noble Nketsia.

They later lined up on the pitch for inspection, which preceded two matches- John Mensah Fun Club versus the media and then John Mensah XI versus an Obuasi select side.

Players who demonstrated exceptional brilliance received various kinds of prizes donated by the Black Stars captain.

Black Stars assistant coach Kwasi Appiah, Udinese's Kwadjo Asamoah, Jonathan Mensah, Dominic Adiyiah, and Goalkeeper George Owu among other stars demonstrated their support for the Lyon defender by featuring in the game.

Mensah expressed profound thanks to all who contributed in diverse ways to making the program a huge success, saying, 'I must say I am grateful for rallying behind me all these years.

'Your support all these while has urged me on, and I must say a special thanks to my wife, Henrietta, for her unflinching support from day one till today. God bless you all,' he added.

The District Chief Executive of Obuasi Alex Kobina Ackon praised Mensah aka 'Rock of Gibraltar' for bringing residents of Obuasi together to make merry on Boxing Day.

The fun club was co-founded by Nana Obiri Yeboah and Isaac Yeboah; and the chairman is Victor Agbesi.

Bismark Osei Bonsu is the scribe, while Kojo and Kofi Yawson occupy the assistant secretary and the organizing secretary positions respectively.

Diana Adwoa Owusua is the women's organizer. Dawuda Iddrisu  is the porter  while  Amoah Bimpeh and Adama Mohammed handle  the club's disciplinary issues. Stephen Adjabeng handles the club's financial matters.
