Cycling delegation in Burkina Faso for ECOWAS Tour meeting

Accra, Nov. 30, GNA – A four-man delegation from the Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF) has left for Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso for a meeting of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Tour next year.

The quartet includes Teye Doku, Vice President of the GCF, Shaaban Mohammed, Technical Director of the Federation, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Antwi-Ababio from the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) and Sam Ayer from the Ghana Immigration Service.

A statement from issued and signed by Dennis Moore, Director of Communications of the GCF copied to GNA Sports on Wednesday said the meeting will primarily highlight on the presentation of the financial implementation of the Tour, presentation of the map of the stages of the Tour, project for the establishment of a West Africa Cycling Union, transshipment of logistics for the race and adoption of the proposed work programme.

The initiative from the sub-region is to have a smooth round-table discussions as to where the various borders post will be accessible dyuring the Tour and also to create a sensitization platform on the need for ECOWAS to implement its tenets of agreement with regards to border flow and movement.

It said the meeting will also cement the long awaited dream of a smooth organization of the tour next year

The second edition of the ECOWAS International Cycling Tour aims to create awareness on border flexibility during the 4-stage race from Lagos through Bening, Togo, Ghana to Cote d'Ivoire.

The delegation is expected back home on Friday, December 2, 2011.
