A four-man contingent from the Ghana Cycling Federation flew out of the Country to the Burkinabe capital Ouagadougou on Monday for a 3-day crucial meeting on the up-coming 2ndedition of ECOWAS Tour next year.
The contingent comprises of Shaaban Mohammed, Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation representing the Sports Authority, DSP Joseph Antwi–Ababio from the MTTU, Mr. Sam Ayer from the Ghana Immigration Service and the Vice President of the Ghana Cycling Federation Mr. Teye Doku representing the Federation.
The meeting will primarily highlight on the presentation of the financial implementation of the Tour, Project for the establishment of a West Africa Cycling Union, Presentation of the map of the Tour stages, transshipment logistics of race and adoption of the proposed work program.
The 2nd ECOWAS International Cycling Tour aims to create awareness on border flexibility during the 4-Stage race from Lagos through Ghana to La Cote D'ivoire. The initiative from the sub-region is to have a smooth round – table discussions as to where the various border post will be accessible during the Tour and also to create a sensitization platform on the need for ECOWAS to request its tenets of agreement regarding border flow.
It is anticipated this meeting will cement the long awaited dream of a smooth organization of the tour mid next year. The delegation is expected back in Ghana on Friday 2ndDecember, 2011.
