Accra, Nov 18, GNA -The Ghana Cycling Federation (GCF), has begun a three-day selection exercise for the National Paracyclists team, ahead of the 4th UCI Africa Paracycling Championship.

The exercise, which is expected to end on Monday, November 21, would be followed immediately with a final residential training.

According to a statement issued from the secretariat of the GCF to the GNA Sports, the exercise is to afford the team maximum concentration to prepare for the event, since it forms part of the qualifiers for the 2012 London Olympic Games.

The statement added that, Worlanyo K. Agra, Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has thrown his unflinching support to the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) in charge of the upcoming 4th Africa Paracycling Championship to be staged in Ghana from the 10th to 11th of December.

Mr Agra, who made these remarks when the LOC paid a courtesy call on him to brief the Authority about progress made so far on the event, said, since the championship is geared towards the London 2012 Olympic Games, and it was therefore worthy for the government to throw its full support to such a course.

He therefore implored the LOC to keep working hard to ensure such an assistance turns as a positive mark as part of the government's "Better Ghana" Agenda in promoting Sports.

Ghana gained the exclusive rights from the world governing body, the UCI to host the event, which will automatically qualify Team Ghana to the Olympic Games.

The African Paracycling Championship is a must qualifier event towards the London 2012 Olympic Games which will accrue maximum points for the various Para-athletes.

Categories to be competed for include Hand cycling (HC), Blind Visual (BV), and Tricycle.

Registered and confirmed countries include South Africa, Kenya, Benin, Togo, Cote D'Ivoire, and Niger, with foreign Para cyclists coming from Albania and Poland.
