HAPPY FM'S 6TH KEEP FIT FESTIVAL HELD IN ACCRA

Event theme was to eradicate stroke through keep fitting

Accra, October 15, 2011: The number 1 sports station, Happy FM, peaked the heavy anticipation roving through the capital this Saturday with the biggest sports and games festival in the country. The Happy FM Keep Fit Festival which kicked off at the EL Wak stadium was officially opened by Honourable Nii Nortey Dua, the Deputy Minister of Sports, as a representative for the vice president. The event started with a processional march by participating clubs from the Aviation Social Centre to the El-Wak stadium where the activities begun.

The Keep Fit Festival which has become an annual feat for Happy FM and its mother company Global Media Alliance was organized under the theme 'Eradicating Stroke through Keep Fitting'. The opening game for the day was a football match between Fidelity Bank's reach for gold team and Ex Black stars which set the mood for the remaining games. The El-Wak stadium was filled to capacity with groups of people excitedly participating in the games. Fun games included track and field, tug of war, sack race and the Ghanaian-initiated, bendball. Undoubtedly, the most famous activity of the day was the Jama competition which combines a tremendous exertion of energy through dancing with harmonized tunes designed to motivate any sports team or athlete to win.

The organizers of the event, Happy FM, announced a pledge to foot the medical expenses of three retired athletes who have been affected by the disease. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr Charles Osei- Asibey station manager of Happy Fm stressed on how crucial exercise and sports are to everyone. “Keeping fit, whether through a particular sports or exercising is one of the most important aspects of human life and it is sad that we don't often partake in it. Our bodies serve as testaments to the status of our health and lifeclass. This is why this festival is taking place today and I am very proud of the annually increasing numbers. It goes to show what we are doing here, the awareness we are hoping to create, has already hit home.” he added.

The closing ceremony saw trophies and cash prizes being given out to the winners for the various games; with the overall best team going to Westside Keepfit Club. During the soccer tournament; Dynamic Keepfit Club rose to the occasion and took home the trophy for placing first. The winners of the Jama competition, New Jauben Keepfit Club were given their well deserved trophy as well as a cash prize. Consolatory prizes from the sponsors were given to the 2nd and 3rd place winners.

The festival definitely lived up to its reputation, infusing the games and activities with performances from hit makers like Ruff n Smooth and Dzigbordzi to maintain the event's tempo. Celebrities like Afia Schwarnegger, Ekow Smith Asante, and Gifty Anti, amongst others were there to show their support and participate as well.

The first draw for Fidelity's 'Reach for Gold' campaign was also held during the event to further evince the importance of healthy living and highlight the Bank's Olympic sports theme. In addition to having eTV, yFM and Silverbird as media partners, the Happy FM Keep Fit Festival was sponsored by Fidelity Bank, Kasapreko, Blue Jeans energy drink , ABL, Lucozade, Voltic and DSTV mobile.
