Ghana's participation in the Cycling event at this year's Maputo All Africa Games has given the opportunity for the hosting of this year's 4th Africa Continental Paracycling Championship sanctioned by the world cycling body-the Union Cycling International (UCI) and set to roll off from the 10th – 11th of December, 2011 in Accra.
The L.O.C comprised representatives from the Office of the President, Ministry of Interior, National Security, Customs and Excise Preventive Service, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Information, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Police, MTTU, Ghana News Agency and the Ghana Armed Forces.
The rest are the National Paralympic Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, National Council on Persons with Disability, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and a representative from Disability Options- an NGO that caters for disables based in Accra, Ghana.
The championship happens to be the 4th edition and will feature four events - Hand Cycling (H CLASS), Blind Visual (BV), Tri-Cycle and Cycling (C CLASS) which will cover a period of two days. It is also expected to embrace over seven countries- Niger, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Kenya, Togo, and Host Nation Ghana. The previous editions were held in South Africa, Morocco, and Burkina Faso.
The event primarily seeks to throw more light on the development of Paracycling in the country as well as making preparations for the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London.
The LOC has since started work today and it is our fervent desire, the smooth organization of this event will put Paracycling and for that matter all the Para-sporting disciplines and indeed mother Ghana on a flying scale in Africa and world.
