Ghana's female hockey team became the second to win a medal for Team Ghana after beating host, Zimbabwe, 5-3 on penalty strokes to pick bronze for the country at the All Africa Games last Saturday.
It brings Ghana's medal tally to three so far after boxing gave the country her first two medal at the Games which is being hosted by Maputo, Mozambique and Bulawayo, Zimbabwe respectively.
Captain Pamela Condobrey scored for Ghana in the 35th minute from a penalty corner but it was leveled by the Zimbabweans to throw the game into an extra time.
The new seconds penalty shoot-out was used to determine the winner. Pamela Condobrey, Georgina Sam and Ramatu Abass scored Ghana's three out of five penalty slots to win bronze.
Indeed, the Ghanaians had to struggle to pick the medal in a game which veteran goalkeeper Grace Mensah was outstanding. She pulled off some dramatic saves but for which the bronze medal would have eluded Ghana.
