Internal Politicking Has Aroused Activism - Says NDC Chairman

By Daily Graphic

The Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Kwabena Adjei, has indicated that internal politicking in the party has aroused activism in almost all executives, activists, members and supporters at all structural levels of the party both home and abroad.

He also pointed out that more important, members of the party had, ever than before, come to understand the reality that the party was greater than any member within it, and reinforced the imperative that every member qualified to do so had the right to compete for any position within the party.

In statement to the press, Dr Adjei said the national executive of the party had taken important party- building cues from those experiences and been guided by them in planning and coming out with impassionate campaign and electoral guidelines that would preserve and showcase its neutrality in the conduct of the upcoming special delegates congress to elect an NDC flag bearer for the 2012 elections.

“As we count down to the upcoming special delegates conference in Sunyani at the end of the week, I wish to recognise the great concern that you have expressed about unity and peace in our great party. In many ways, your apprehensions are genuine and well- placed in demonstrating the great and abiding love you have for the NDC”, he stressed.

The NDC chairman pointed out that events within the party since coming to power two and half years ago had not all been negative, adding that to those in the national executive committee of the NDC, the internal dynamics within the party had more positive than negative impact on the party and its future than many political observers tended to appreciate.

He indicated that the party had done what it could in the spirit and letter of its internal democracy, knowing all the time that the future of this country depended largely on the NDC’s pledge to build a better Ghana for all Ghanaians.

“Our great party is alive. Nothing has shaken its foundation. We have not come to any crossroad and we shall never come to any crossroad. Our great party is now stronger than ever before- prepared than ever before to confront the 2012 elections with vim and vigour”, he said

Dr Adjei took the opportunity to appeal to the party faithful to continue to seek unity in the NDC, as well as seek peace and harmony in the NDC, adding “The NDC is your fortress. The challenge rests on you to strengthen the foundation and super structures of your party. You can do this by helping to stop the acrimony before the Sunyani event. Let us go to Sunyani with peace and love. This is the only way to demonstrate our political maturity and maturation of the great NDC to others”.
