After a stint in the oil and gas industry in the country, Solmed Ghana Limited has demonstrated glimpses of their support for sports. And the first beneficiary of the company's support is young golfer, George Osei.

At a brief presentation ceremony at the Tema Country Golf Club last Sunday, the Managing Director of Solmed Ghana Kevin Hall and some members of his staff presented a 2,000 Cedis cheque to the golfer.

The donation, according to Hall, forms part of his company's bid to support sports development in the country. 'We have supported and sponsored Osei in all the Open competitions in the country and beyond, he has a great potential,' Hall said in a post-presentation ceremony.

Hall, a golfer himself revealed that the presentation may not be enough, but was sure it will help the golfer in a way as he strives for excellence.

'We consider the gesture as a social responsibility, and we are determined to support the sporting industry because sports as you know is business, We will continue to support him till a bigger sponsor surfaces,' he added.

In his acceptance remarks, Osei a single handicapper and winner of the Damang Open expressed sincere thanks to Solmed for the support, and pledged to make good use of the gesture. 'I have struggled without success for sponsorship all these years, thank God Solmed has seen what I am capable of, I promise to go the extra mile,' Osei said.

Solmed, a few weeks ago supported the forthcoming Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards Night with a cash donation of GH¢5,000 cheque. Solmed, with its parent body in Spain, boasts of 120 Ghanaian workers.
