Stevanovic Hails Stars

Accra, March 30, - Ghana's Black Stars head coach, Goran Stevanovic has hailed his charges for their second half display that held England to a 1-1 draw at the Wembley stadium on Tuesday.

Ghana staged a splendid comeback in the second half to pick a point off the Three Lions in what was the first meeting between both countries at the senior level.

Asamoah Gyan leveled for Ghana with a stunning injury-time equalizer when he picked up the ball on the edge of the box, turned Joleon Lescott inside out before curling an incredible finish to amazement of the British.

The Serb said in a post match interview that "we lifted our game in the second half and the players did very well to make us proud."

Liverpool's Andy Carroll put the English ahead deep in the first half and coach Stevanovic said, "England played better in the first half and we gave a very good performance in the second half to deserve the draw."

Carroll's 43rd minute opener was from a well taken left volley that capped the English dominant possession early in the game.

The Coach said he was getting to know his players better by the day and was hopeful about the prospects of building a winsome team.

"The players were a bit slow in the first half but we played much better in the second.

"I saw what they could do in Congo though we were under pressure to win. After that game in Congo plus this one, I think I'm getting to know the players better."

The game which was watched by over 20,000 traveling Ghanaian fans and supporters has been described by the British as the biggest in terms of atmosphere creation.
