CPP warns against foreign oil tycoons

THE CONVENTION People Party (CPP) has cautioned the country to be wary of the involvement of foreign partners in the management of Ghana's oil. The party warned that the good people of the country may not see any direct benefit from Ghana's share of the oil, under the current system of administration because of influence of foreign partners.

The CPP is of the view that since the management of oil globally is going through turbulent times, as a result of conflicts in the Arab World, there is the likelihood that America and its foreign allies would turn their attention on Ghana and other sub-Saharan oil rich countries.

Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi to commemorate the 45th Anniversary Celebration of the overthrow of the CPP regime, the National Chairman of the party, Mr. Ladi Nylander cautioned that just like some traitors in the country connived with the American Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to oust the Nkrumah regime and deprived the country of its economic development, the same fate is likely to befall our oil.

'Let me warn that the conspirators who denied Ghana the opportunity to develop several years ago, are still hanging around and are ready to rip the country of what is due it, so we should be very careful about them,' he added.

According to him, under the current system of administration, Ghanaians cannot be assured of maximum benefit from the oil exploration because 'the perpetrators would once again connive with foreign partners to suck the people dry.'

Mr. Nylander noted with concern that the present system under which Ghana's oil is being handled does not present any hope for the people of the country, stressing that lack of clarity on the management of the resources poses serious danger to the country.

He noted that considering the poor state of affairs in the country, there is no gainsaying that Ghana needs the CPP to restore the past glories and to ensure total economic emancipation for the people of Ghana.

'The State of our Nation is not what it should be. We should be a proud, self-reliant, industrialized and prosperous as planned by our great leader, the Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. But we have become more dependent on foreign aide which collapsed our industries,' the CPP chairman stressed.

Mr. Nylander noted that the Mills-led NDC administration has continued to sell national assets to foreign interests, citing the recent sale of part of Ghana's share in the former Ashanti Goldfields.

'The CPP brings to the table, a development philosophy for the reconstruction of our dependent economy that reverses and eradicates dependent relations in our development efforts. Unlike NDC and NPP that see nothing wrong with the development of an aid dependent economy, the CPP from the perspective of our Nkrumahist philosophy is committed to the construction of a new economy and a new Ghana,' he stressed.

He said the CPP would wean the economy away from the IMF, World Bank and other international finance institutions.

A leading member of the party, Prof. Agyemang Badu Akosah denied the assertion that the ideologies of  former President Nkrumah was not relevant to the current dispensation, explaining that 'Ghanaians cannot forget the values and ideologies of a man whose legacies the country continues to enjoy'.

Present at the press conference, organized at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, were other leading members of the party, including the former presidential candidate, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, Mr. Bright Akwettey and Hajia Salamatu, the National Women's Organizer.
