January 14, 2011 Apam (C/R), Jan. 14, GNA - Out of seven women each who contested the district level election in Gomoa East and West respectively, only two won.

Mr Moses Wuni, Gomoa East Electoral Officer, said only Jennifer Essel from the newly created Dasum-Amoanda Electoral Area won in Gomoa East.

Mr Wuni said Miss Essel secured 303 votes to beat her male contestants, Isaac Justice Mensah who had 278 votes and Bismark N.K. Akomprah who got 223 votes.

He said out of the 10 members of the previous assembly who sought re-election, only four won, with the former Presiding Member, Prince Charles Abbam as one of the casualties.

For his part, Mr Stephen Bertino, Gomoa West Electoral Officer, said out of the seven females who contested in the constituency only Miss Cecilia Awotwe Pratt won in the Nsuekyir Electoral Area of Apam.

Mr Bertino said she polled 335 votes to defeat her male challenger, Nana Mensah Baiden who got 225 votes.

He said out of the 19 old assembly members who contested, only five were returned to the assembly.

Mr Bertino said rejection of the members of the former assembly suggested that their performance did not meet the aspirations of their people.
