Accra, Dec. 20, GNA - Black Stars striker, Asamoah Gyan jetted off to Cairo, Egypt from England on Monday via a Chartered plane to attend the 2010 CAF Awards billed to take place on Monday evening.

The freezing conditions and suspension of most flights out of the United Kingdom prevented Gyan from travelling to the Egyptian capital last Sunday.

However, an official of the organizers told GNA Sports that the 25-year old vying for the topmost honour with Cameroonian Samuel Eto'o Fils and Cote d'Ivoire striker Didier Drogba, has chartered a plane at his own expense to attend the event in Cairo.

"Gyan has chartered a plane to come to Egypt after the bad weather conditions halted his trip yesterday (Sunday). He is sure to arrive in the evening before the event commences."

The official added that Eto'o, who guided Inter Milan to the FIFA Club World Cup in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE) last Saturday, is also expected to arrive via a chartered plane in the company of his entourage.

The winner of the event will be decided by votes from the head coaches of the 43 National Associations affiliated to CAF.

Gyan is hoping to become the second Ghanaian after Abedi Pele to scoop the individual honour in Africa football introduced by CAF in 1993.
