Accra, Dec. 18, GNA - Egyptian giants, Sharkia confirmed their status as the foremost African hockey Club after whacking Trustees of Ghana 4-1 on Saturday to emerge winners of the 22nd Africa Cup of Clubs Championship.

It was the 19th time the North Africans had annexed the title in the 22-year history of the competition, a feat which clearly ranks them above their peers.

After a 3-3 draw during the earlier meeting between the two sides, Sharkia were simply too much for Trustees, whose output simply meant that Ghana must wait to celebrate a champion.

With Ahmed Metwally and Hassan Mohamed at their usual best, the Egyptians led 2-0 at half time through Waleed Mahmoud and Mohamed in the sixth and 35th minutes respectively.

The lads of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) lacked urgency in their play allowing the Egyptians to dominate proceedings.

Two minutes into the second half, Mohamed scored the third goal with Hosam Gobran sealing victory in the 50th minute.

The best moment for Trustees came in the 55th minute which resulted in Jonnie Botsio hitting through from a penalty corner, but it turned to be only a consolation for the host club.

The Egyptians went wild moments after proceedings was brought to an end with chants of 'Allahu Akbar' (meaning God is Great in Arabic) on the lips of every member of their team.

Ms Akua Sena Dansua, Minister of Youth and Sports presented the giant trophy to the captain of Sharkia, Osama AbdelSamad.

In the third place match, Police Union also of Egypt beat Strathmore of Kenya 3-1.
