Stars end year on 16th place

Accra, Dec. 15, GNA - Ghana's Black Stars finished the year as the 16th best team in the world, according to the latest rankings released by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) on Wednesday.

The Stars moved a place up of their previous ranking, but maintained their second position on the African continent on 908 points, behind African champions, Egypt who moved into the Top 10 on the ninth place with 1078 points.

However, the Stars latest ranking falls two places behind their best ever placing in the monthly ranking, which came in May 2008.

The position clearly reflects a perfect year for the Black Stars after reaching the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in Angola and the quarters of the FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

According to the rankings of the continent culled by GNA Sports, Cote d'Ivoire has (846 points), Nigeria (725 points), Algeria (687 points), Cameroon (670 points), Gabon (648 points), Burkina Faso (644 points), Tunisia (576 points) and Guinea (569 points) complete the Top 10 in Africa.

World Champions, Spain finished the year in top position with Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, England, Uruguay, Portugal, Egypt and Croatia in that order in the Top 10.
