Liberty Rout B.A. Stars
Togolese imports, Zakari Morou and Kevin Kouakou, stole the show as Liberty Professionals ran riot and cut Brong Ahafo (B.A.) Stars to size with an emphatic 4-0 victory at the Carl Reindorf Park at Dansoman yesterday.
Prior to yesterday’s game, home victories had been rare for the Scientific Soccer Lads who had won just two out of eight games, with their last home win recorded against Ashantigold in October.
However, Coach George Lamptey’s charges were in their element yesterday with a man-of-the-match display by Morou who scored a hat-trick, while the visitors fired blank in front of the Liberty goal area.
There was never a dull moment, with end-to-end action after Morou opened the floodgates on the ninth minute with a spectacular goal, beating goalkeeper Mohammed Nurudeen with a 25-metre shot on the run and completing his hat-trick on the 68th minute.
The Brong Ahafo lads, who had lost all their previous five away games, put up a strong fight but were undermined by poor finishing by strikers Mohammed Bawa, Oscar Amponsah and Joseph Halm who were wasteful in the Liberty goal area.
Liberty, too, missed some unpardonable chances in the 30th, 32nd and 35th minutes and still created more chances to raise the expectation of fans for a possible goal feast.
They seized their moment for a 2-0 lead at half time when the quick-silver Morou sneaked past his marker to intercept a short corner kick, controlled the ball before blasting it past the B.A. Stars goalie on the 40th minute.
The visitors came back from recess fired up, matching Liberty boot for boot. But the home side sealed victory on the 65th minute after Morou split open the B.A. Stars defence during a counter-attack and set up Kouakou to score.
