CAF Licence B Course Ends
The Ghana Football Association (GFA)-organized CAF License 'B' coaching course with emphasis on the upgrading of the knowledge of coaches has ended.
The course organized from August 9-23 at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, drew participation from seasoned and young coaches with the objective of learning some modern trends in football.
GFA Technical Director, Francis Oti Akenteng said the two-work course provided a platform for coaches of different generations to exchange and share ideas geared towards the development of the game.
Amongst topics treated at the course held under the technical supervision of CAF Instructors, Ben Koufie and Anthony K. Edusei, are training, tactics, psychology, physiotherapy and practices, with excellent participation from the coaches present.
Zimbabwean CAF and FIFA Instructor, Nelson Matongorere evaluated the performance of the participants together with the local duo, Koufie and Edusei.
Mantongorere expressed satisfaction with the response of the participants in the various fields of study, which confirms their zeal to climb up the coaching ladder.
“The response of the participants was highly satisfactory. The participants appeared very prepared and ready for the course and it reflected in their overall performance especially with the methodology of coaching.”
Koufie also described the 14-day programme as a major success and a giant step towards the licensing of all coaches on the continent in the not-too-distant future.
One of the participants, Abdul Karim Zito, commended CAF on such a programme which really equipped his knowledge on the technical and tactical aspects of football.
“I'm very elated to have taken part in the course as I learnt many things relating to the modern trends of the game. I'm aspiring for much higher level and I must commend CAF and GFA for putting together such an educative and informative programme for local coaches.”
Each of the participants was presented with a certificate of merit at the end of the course.
Forty-five (45) coaches took part in the course including seasoned coaches like Herbert Addo and Malik Addo, and the younger generation such as Yaw Preko, Yaw Acheampong and Felix Aboagye amongst others.
Ghana becomes the first country in the sub-region to organize the CAF License 'B' coaching programme.
BERNARD DON Bortey of Aduana Stars insists he has not passed his prime and that he could still play at the top level, saying, “I'm not an old horse.”
The former Tema Ghapoha and Accra Hearts of Oak star told DAILY GUIDE SPORTS in a chat that his best days were yet to come, debunking reports that he was an 'old player'.
Don Bortey aka 'Serial Killer' said he was as fit as a fiddle and ready to showcase his immense talent when the league gets underway.
The attacker refused to say what necessitated his quick fall from 'grace' at Hearts where he was lately considered surplus, resulting in his signing for Aduana Stars.
He however said he joined the Ghana champions to prove wrong, his critics who were of the notion that he was old and had nothing to offer again.
“You will see a totally different Don Bortey this season,” he said.
The winger said those he started playing football with at the colts level, including Michael Essien of Chelsea and Derrick Boateng, were still plying their trade at the top level, so he too could do same.
On Aduana Stars' chance in their maiden appearance of the Africa Champions League, the player, who was experienced in the African game, said there was light at the end of the tunnel for his new club. “Aduana Stars would reach the lucrative money zone of the competition,” the star striker with abundant speed and skills said, noting that Aduana Stars could be a major force to reckon with in the local league.
