Ghana president John Evans Atta Mills says the Black Stars players will be given national honors and $20,000 each for their sterling performance at the World Cup.

The President today announced the package when he hosted the team to the Castle, a day after their arrival from South Africa.

The Black Stars exited the tournament last Friday after losing to Uruguay in the quarter-final match which traveled to extra-time and was decided by penalties in South Africa.

Despite their inability to reach to the semi-finals, the Black Stars, Africa's only side out of six representatives to have advance from the group stages have earned rave reviews for their display holding high the continent's flag.

President Mills said the team had made Africa proud with their performance.

“You did not win the World Cup but, through your performance, you carried high the flags of not only Ghana but Africa,” President Mills said.

The team had earlier in the morning gone on a parade through the streets of Accra before the visit to the Presidency.

On Monday, thousands of Ghanaian fans gathered at the airport in Accra for over four hours to give a heroes' welcome to the Black Stars returning from the soccer World Cup after their best performances ever.
