Kumasi, April, 11, GNA - 'Fabulous' Kumasi Asante Kotoko maintained their winning spree since coach Johnson Smith took over from Paa Kwesi Fabin when they inflicted a hard won 1-0 defeat on visiting Liberty Professionals in their 26th Week Glo Premier League encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi on Sunday.

The only goal of the match was scored in the 11th minute through Edward Affum when he connected the ball into a yawning net from a Daniel Nii-Adjei's pass in a goalmouth melee.

In their last encounter in Tamale last week, the Porcupine Warriors managed a rare feat when they beat Real Tamale United (RTU) 1-0.

It was Kotoko who kicked off after referee Awal Mohammed whistled for hostilities to begin and made series of incursions into their opponents gaol area and it came as no surprise when they took the lead in the 11th minute after missing some glaring chances.

The Dansoman-based lads accepted the challenge and improved on their game and put Kotoko on a severe pressure with their foreign imports of Capinaby Soman and Soda Musah Sylla wasting precious opportunities in the 13th and 21st minutes respectively.

The visitors continued to probe for the equalizer and nearly had it in the 39th minute but Zakari Morou failed to connect his head to a corner kick taken by Francis Morton.

In the second session of the game, Kotoko resorted to a defence approach to protect their lone goal with few strikers on top, and this resulted in the visitors putting severe pressure on the Kotoko defence but failing to find the net.

Liberty made several forays, as they shot from all angles but the Kotoko defence was able to absorb the pressure till the final whistle.
