Ghana's High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, His Excellency Mr. Lee Ocran, on January 3 2010, visited the Black Stars at their camp base, to familiarize himself with their state of preparations ahead of the African Cup of Nations slated for Angola. The High Commissioner was met on arrival by officials of the Ghana Football Association, including Mr. Awuah Nyamekye, Kwasi Acheampong Owuahene and Opoku Afriyie.

His Excellency Ocran interacted extensively with the players and assured them of his assistance and that of the Mission during their stay in South Africa.

He told the players of the high expectations both Ghanaians and South Africans have in the team and expressed the hope that their performance in Angola will justify the confidence reposed in them.

The High Commissioner also presented food items comprising fruit juices, energy drinks and water to the team.

Forward Asamoah Gyan, who received the items on behalf of the players, expressed appreciation for the gesture.

He indicated that while the visit was an indication of the support of the government at every level of their preparation, it also imposed a high sense of responsibility on the players to justify the investment and confidence in them.

He assured the High Commissioner, who joined the team for lunch at their White River base in Mpumalanga, a province and Ghanaians that they will live up to that expectation.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars despite demonstrating high profile performance drew 0-0 with their Malawian counterparts in their last preparatory exercise in Swaziland on Tuesday evening.
