Ghana coach Milovan Rajevac has revealed that creative midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah will carry the team on his shoulders at next week's African Cup of Nations despite the presence of Michael Essien.

Chelsea star Essien is expected by the football world to lead the Black Stars onslaught on their opponents because of his performance for the English side.

But the Serbian manager has other plans as he thinks his potential world-class midfielder Asamoah will create the chances for the Black Stars.

"Kwadwo Asamoah was a very important player for us in two key qualifiers and unfortunately he got injured which slowed him down a bit," Rajevac told KickOffGhana.com.

"But he is back now and picking up and I hope he will hit peak form again not just in Angola but the world cup too because he is our most important creative player at the moment." Rajevac said.

The Udinese was handed Ghana's famous Number 10 jersey which was held by influential legends Abedi Pele and Stephen Appiah as they led the country to important milestones.

Despite the huge expectation from Ghana fans for Asamoah's form to peak at the African Cup of Nations, he says will also be relying on his colleagues.

"The number 10 is just a number," Asamoah told KickOffGhana.com.

"It has been worn some of the greatest names in Ghana football but it is about what I can do on the field, what I bring to bear on the team and i hope i can do that positively for the team."

"It is not a burden for me that many people expect me to do well. I am a football player and anytime i get on the field I will do my best.

"But this game is about teamwork and with my colleagues i think we can do really well."

Ghana have been placed in a tough group where they face Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Togo.
