Michael Essien - Will be at Angola 2010 for Ghana at all cost

Michael Essien is expected to turn up for Ghana's African Cup of Nations campaign next month fully fit, says Chelsea manager, Carlo Ancelotti.

John Mensah is also hoping upon hope to feature for the Stars at Angola 2010 despite injury threatening his participation.

Essien has been receiving treatment at Chelsea on his injured hamstring after which he would travel to the tournament in Angola to play for the Black Stars.

Ancelotti told the club’s website that Essien should be fit to play for Ghana after recovery.

“He will go I think, in one week, he will be ready to go to play for the African Cup,” Ancelotti said.

Essien has been out of action since suffering a hamstring tear against Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia in the Champions League on December, 8.

On the another hand, it is not definite if defender and deputy captain, John Mensah will make it to Angola, despite being on Coach Milovan Rajevac’s list.

Mensah's latest bout with injury came just days before he was due to join his international colleagues at Ghana's camp in Nelspruit, South Africa where the national side has been preparing for the tournament.

Despite the frustration, the player who is line to lead Ghana to a second straight Nations Cup, wants the niggling problems sorted out as he battles with time to be fit for the Black Stars' opening clash with Togo on January 11.

'I am happy to be with Sunderland, but I am very sad that I have not been able to play because of injuries.

I don't understand why I have had so many injuries. I need the doctors to tell me why, and they are trying to find out what it is.

'I feel I can do well in the Premier League, and of course the African Nations Cup is a big goal for me and my country.
