Friendly Match: Liberty pip Kotoko

LOSING to Liberty Professional by 3-2 in a friendly encounter at the Accra Staduim yesterday the warning signal must have gone to Kumasi Asante Kotoko as they enplane today for Egypt to play Ghazel El Mahala in the second leg of the Africa Cup Winners match on Saturday.

Even though Kotoko played their hearts out their forward liners were lacking ideas as Liberty took advantage to convert the chances that came their way.

The match which was played in three halves, each half lasting 40 minutes was keenly contested with Liberty parading their second team in the first half. Kotoko were the first to break the deadlock in the 30 minute through Stephen Oduro.

Liberty responded quickly and fetched the equaliser in the 32nd minute when Asamoah Djan was brought down in the penalty box for David Boateng to convert the kick.

Twelve minutes after recess Liberty increased the tally when William Tiero beat Osei Boateng in post for Kotoko. Godwin Ablordey levelled the scores for Kotoko through a penalty when he was brought down in the box.

Liberty again went ahead when William Tiero was brought down in the in a process for Ablade Morgan to convert from the penalty spot for the third goal.
