Tema, Dec. 14, GNA - Obeng Appiah scored 35 points to win this year's Golf Day Classic Open Championship played at the Celebrity Golf Course at Sakumono, near Tema on Saturday.
Appiah who swept past a field of 120 amateur golfers, clinched the victory by playing 19 Back and 16 Front with a Handicap of 22.
He was followed at second position by Abdul-Aziz Amankwah who defeated K. O. Gyeabour on count-back after they had both scored 33 points while Samuel Aidoo placed fourth with 32 points.
In the Division 'A' encounter, Ernest Kumi came first with 40 points, followed by Akwasi Opoku at the second position with 37 points while Theophilus Asampong took the third position with 32 points.
Victoria Oberoi won the Ladies segment with 37 points while Margaret Harrington took the second position with 32 points.
In the Kids Putting Division, Nadia Amankwa came first with three points, T. J. Asampong followed in the second position with two points, beating Abdel Aziz Junior on count-back.
The one-day 18-Hole Stable-ford competition, which was open to amateur golfers throughout the country, was co-sponsored by Women's World Banking Ghana (WWBG), Exp. Ghana Limited, Coca Cola Bottling Company of Ghana Limited and D. J. Cast Limited.
The championship was aimed at bringing together golfers and their spouses to socialize and make new friends and also strengthen the already existing cordial relationship among golfers.
Mr Oswald Amuzu, Competition Secretary of the Celebrity Golf Club praised the companies for supporting the Club and said they have put in place measures to ensure that more competitions are played next year.
He therefore called for more sponsorship from corporate bodies to enable the Club realize its dream of developing the sport into international standard.
