MARINE Sticks of Ghana Navy came from behind on two occasions to beat Reformers of Ghana Prisons 4-2 in their Mobitel knockout match played at the National Hockey Pitch last Saturday.

Not even the mercenary civilian players recruited to beef up their team to avoid humiliation, could stop Edward Oblie, Patrick Taylor and Eric Sackey of Marine Sticks from kicking them out.

Reformers who pushed off first hit the board in the 16th minute but the 'Seafarers' who were not disturbed replied in the 27th minute through a penalty corner.

The Prison Officers restored their lead three minutes later through Edward Addy but Marine Sticks called their bluff again, equalising in the 51st minute through Oblie.

Taylor made it 3-2 for his side in the 56th minute while Eric Sackey sealed the doom of their opponents when he beautifully converted a penalty three minutes to full time to bring the final score to 4-2 and set them up against Trustees of SSNIT at the quarter-final stage of the tournament on Saturday.

Golden Sticks also beat Veterans 5-1 to meet sensational MultiSticks.

Edward Asiedu (21st and 70th); Charles Sowah (33rd & 43rd) and Solomon Barnor (55th) scored for the Commercial Bank boys while Bartholomew Kukubor scored the consolation goal for the old men.

Citizens and Kingsticks settled for a 1-1 draw during regulation time, with Rudolf Sowah and Kwame Owusu scoring for their respective teams. In the penalty shoot-out, Kingsticks scored four as against three by Citizens to qualify for the quarter-finals with a 5-4 aggregate to play Extinguishers of Fire Service.

The other men's quarter-final match will be between Exchequers and CEPS while CEPS play Reformers and COMETS take on Fire Service in the ladies semi-final matches.

Tema Juvenile Stars also dismissed Independence Avenue Stars 2-0 with Yoofi Arthur scoring in the eighth and 48th minutes to bring them face to face with GAHA Stars in the semi-finals.

Pepsi Babies will also meet Multi Babies in the other semi-final match after beating Street Academy 3-0.

Mark Botchway, Leonard Futah and Godsway Balagi netted for their side to sail them through to the next stage.
