Golden Rackets place fourth at African Championship

Accra, Dec. 2, GNA - The national Tennis team, the Golden Rackets finished fourth in the Teams event at the just ended African Nations Cup Tennis Championship held in Cairo, Egypt.
The team after losing most of its matches finished behind Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt in that order at the championship held from November 8 to November 15 in the Egyptian capital.
A statement signed by Emmanuel Sagoe, Secretary General of Ghana Tennis Association (GTA) copied to GNA Sports said the Golden Rackets' participation in the team's event was due to the accumulation of nine points from the continental ranking playoffs.
For the Individual competition, he said the Golden Rackets (Male and Female) reached the Round of 16.
However, Ghanaian Mensford Owusu Danso who paired with Tunisian Triki Ahmed for the doubles lost out at the quarterfinal to Moroccan pair of Chaki Rabie and El Amranireda 6-3, 6-4.
Ghana was represented by five players made up of Owusu Mendsford Danso, Owusu Mensford Obeng, Robert Kpodo and the female duo of Kate Coleman and Stacy Bulley.
Other members of the team's delegation were Sam Pee Yalley - Vice Chairman of GTA, Emmanuel Sagoe - Secretary General and Eric Dowouna - Coach.
The team has since returned home.
