Kessben Whip Ashgold
LEAGUE LEADERS Kessben FC maintained their position at the summit of the table when they amassed the three valuable points at stake in a fiercely contested duel with second-placed Ashantigold FC yesterday.
The home side capitalized on their numerical advantage by thumping 10-man Ashgold 2-1 to the delight of the home fans that jammed the Anane Boateng Stadium at Abrankese.
The vital victory enabled Kessben to widen the gap at the summit of the table with 15 points from six games.
Playing delightful football, Kessben FC deservedly broke the deadlock when Ali Baba ghosted past his markers to hit the back of the net in the early stages of the cracker.
Anum Lankwey blasted a bullet which graced the wood work but the visitor's defencemen looked lethargic, failing to clear the danger as Ali Baba raced past them to score.
Ashgold came on level pegging in the 10th minute when Frederick Quaison's volley found the net, bringing the first half to a close.
Ashgold's Skipper Daniel Asamoah was shown the marching off orders for violent play and Kessben FC capitalised of the numerical advantage by snatching the match winner when Edmund Owusu Peprah came from the bench to head home Bismark Aidan's pin-point cross.
At Dormaa, debutants Aduana Stars stunned defending champions Accra Hearts of Oak 1-0 after the two teams sold out a beautiful match to the colossal crowd at the stadium.
After playing a goalless drawn game in the first half, Aduana Stars started the second half on a brighter note, pinning their opponents to the wall for the greater part of the game.
It therefore came as no surprise when the home side scored the match winner via the spot kick, to bag the three points at stake.
