Sierra Leone Police Officers begin Course in Accra
A two week pre-deployment training course for 42 Police Officers from the Sierra Leone Police Service who are due for departure to Somalia has opened in Accra.
The training will participants with International Humanitarian Law, enlighten participants on the complexities of the Somali conflict and others.
The commandant of the Kofi Annan International Peace Training Center Air Vice Marshal Dovlo said, the requisite knowledge on the causes of conflict sin Africa and principles and legal framework of peace keeping operations and connection between culture and gender.
Air vice Marshal Dovlo said, the training as designed by the centre in partnership with the German Technical cooperation Based on the UN's core Pre-Deployment Training Manuel and UN standard Training Modules.
The Deputy Sierra Leon High Commissioner, Mrs. Bakie Remoe Bohorty reminded the participants of their roles in providing assistance to the vulnerable civilians who have to bear the brunt of the carnage of the war.
The Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy, Christian Winkter said, late September this year, the Sierra Leonean police made a request to GT2 to sponsor the training of their officers who have passed the selection team's test to be deployed to Somalia hence the training in Ghana.
He said, the project came at the right time since it is in line with various activities of the German government aimed at strengthening the G8 Action plan for Africa.
