Etwi-Barimahs steal show

...at Ghana Seniors Open Golf

FRANK and Florence Etwi-Barimah, both of the Tema Country Golf club dominated the 14th Ghana Seniors Open by claiming the two vital prizes at the end of the two-day championships held at the Celebrity Golf Course, Sakumono, near Tema, on Sunday.

While Frank returned 168 gross to take the men’s title, Florence, affectionately called ‘Lady Scientific’, finished with 170 gross to beat Mary Asafu-Adjeiye’s 197 gross and Esi Cobbina’s 203 gross to second and third respectively.

Bashiru Sakibu with 170 gross, Brig. Joe Odei with 172 gross and Evangelist Lee Mensah with 179 gross followed Frank Etwi-Barimah in that order in the men’s 55-plus group.

E.M. Kwame regained the men’s 50-54 trophy with a huge 157 gross score, beating D. Arkutu with 172 and Kofi Amoabeng who scored 181 gross, in that order while S. L Quartey with 148 net was runner-up to A. Johnson’s 45 net and winner in the 55-plus handicap event.

The competition was organised by the Ghana Golf Association (GGA) and sponsored by Ghana Oil Company Limited (GOIL).

Prof M. Ben-George, acting President of the GGA, beat K. Agyei-Gyamfi 181 and 198 gross in the men’s 65-plus group. Bok-Nam Kim Club entrant Gyimah-Kwakye with 158 net won the 50-54 men’s handicap, beating Kwesi Essel Koomson with 166 net while G. Intsiful and A. Boaitey both from Kumasi took the first and second spot with 180 and 200 gross in the men’s supporting group.

Other prizes in the ladies 65-plus went to Francesca 153 and Ama Morgan 147 net respectively while Elizabeth Quartey 165 net beat Elizabeth 55-plus handicap event. Mr Yaw Agyemang-Duah, Managing Director of Goil, pledged to keep to management promise to help promote and encourage golf with regular sponsorship.
