U.S based Ghanaian Website to sponsor lesser known sporting activities in Ghana

Accra, Oct. 23, GNA- Sportspave.com, a United States of America based Ghanaian Sports website company is to sponsor individual Ghanaians and help towards the development of lesser known sports in the country.

The sponsorship is to encourage athletes and other sports men and women engaged in other disciplines to development their talents apart from the usual soccer and boxing which have dominated the airwaves in the country.

Mr Gershon Gbediame, Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South, a representative of the company announced these when he presented two sets of jerseys valued at five thousand Ghana Cedis (GHC 5,000.00) to the HOOPS basketball team based in Cape Coast in the Central Region on behalf of the Executives of the Website.

He said the company would offer special attention to athletics, basketball, Table Tennis, Baseball, Rugby, Hockey and other lesser known sports disciplines and called on managements and individual sporting enthusiasts to hook onto the website to enable them work out the sponsorship deals.

The MP said although soccer and boxing have already received a lot of attention and sponsorship, they would not hesitate to support them if they have genuine cases and contribution to make in the development of general sports in the country.

Mr Gbediame said the website had identified sports as the main activity that can go a long way in uniting Ghanaians who have over the years been polarized by ethnicity, religion, regionalism and party politics.

He therefore appealed to the recipients of the jerseys to justify the investment made for them by going all out to become one of the best basketball teams in the country.

Mr Claudius Thompson, coach of the HOOPS basketball team commended the website for its support and pledged to work hard to represent the country within the next two years.

He announced that through effective collaboration, 12 members of the team have received scholarships to attend school and ply their sporting talents in the United States of America.

The Sportspave.com is represented in Ghana by Gershon Gbadiame, James Anassah, George Motogbe and Percy Motogbe.
