Satellites for 2010 World Cup
The glittering performance of the current U-20 World champions, the Black Satellites, in Egypt, has stirred FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi to announce that some key performers of the team will join Essien and co. for next June's Mundial.
In an emphatic declaration in a post-tournament World Cup press conference yesterday, Mr. Nyantakyi revealed that “Some of the players who demonstrated brilliance in Egypt will certainly be on the plane to South Africa for the Mundial.”
He categorically pointed out that the entire team will be at the 2014 World Cup, slated for Brazil, saying “All of them (the players) will be at the 2014 World Cup tourney.”
The elated FA President said: “Winning the World Cup is no mean achievement. It is a feat worth celebrating and will certainly serve as a moral booster for the Black Stars in South Africa.”
He commended the team's technical handlers for not just lifting the ultimate but emerging as the most potent striking team and most disciplined team, among other awards.
Mr. Nyantakyi expressed the hope that Dominic Adiyiah, after emerging as the competition's best player, follows the footsteps of Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi, who chalked same feats in the '79 and '05 editions respectively.
In separate words, coach Sellas Tetteh, skipper Andre Dede Ayew and the chairman of the Satellites management committee - Mr. Jordan Anagblah admitted the enormity of the task despite winning the ultimate, and attributed the success of the team to hard work, team work and the slogan “Kunfa ya Kun,” which in Arabic means what must happen would happen.
The well attended press conference preceded the team's trophy parade through some principal streets of Accra, which was expected to end at the Castle.
