Kumasi , Aug 12, GNA - The Ministry of Youth and Sports has been urged to collaborate with the National Sports Council (NSC) to come out with comprehensive programmes for the development of lesser known sports

Mr Desmond Otuo Tuffour, a Sports Analyst, who made the call through the GNA Sports in Kumasi , said Ghana 's over-reliance on football, athletics and boxing for laurels in international competitions, needed to be changed.

"The over-reliance on a few disciplines has limited the country's chances of unearthing talents in sporting disciplines like rugby, cricket, baseball, martial arts, volleyball and netball."

Mr Tuffour said a holistic approach to developing lesser known sports could also help to develop them as well as bring in foreign exchange to improve the national economy.

The Sports Analyst challenged corporate bodies to shift the focus on sponsorship of mainly football and beauty pageants and begin to support other sporting disciplines.
