Indian Premier League side East Bengal are ready to fine Ghanaian playmaker Yakubu Yusif for absented himself from their three week long pre-season training which ended on Thursday.

According to reports, Yusif's no show in camp has irked the club officials.

The football secretary of the club Santosh (Babu) Bhattacharya has clearly stated, "We are not taking Yakubu's absence very lightly. According to the contract with the footballer we will deduct penalty from his salary for not having turned up for the pre-season training."

Yusif called up his coach to explain his wife is is away to America for some work and he has not been able to leave his young kids back home alone.

But East Bangal Club officials are reluctant to buy that excuse.

The coach is very clear in his thoughts, "Yakubu is a tested horse, I know what he can do. But I have to get a measure of Edmilson and Sebastian. That is why I am trying them out in the IFA Shield."

"Let Yakubu join the side first. Then he will also have to undergo one month's hard work, which the current boys have done. I have lot of time to decide. But I am surprised by Yakubu's absence because he is a strict disciplinarian. He must have had some problem."
