Ghana’s Black Satellies will embark on a two-match training tour of Switzerland between August 7 and 13 with a strong squad which looks like a shadow of the final team for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.
Sources close to the team indicate that the 21-man squad, dominated by 10 foreign-based players, has been forwarded to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) ahead of the two matches against their United Arab Emirates (UAE) counterparts who are currently in Switzerland for a 35-day training camp for their Group F contest with South Africa (opener), Honduras and Hungary.
The battle-tested foreign-based players who will be under Coach Sellas Tetteh’s watch during the two games on August 9 and 12 are Daniel Opare, Sadick Adams, Samuel Inkoom, Opoku Agyemang of Black Stars fame, Rabiu Mohammed, Abeiku Quansah, David Addy, Dominic Adiyah, Ishmael Yartey and Jonathan Mensah.
They will be joined in Switzerland by 11 home-based players, including three goalkeepers, who are scheduled to fly out with team officials on August 7.
The European trip comes as a great relief to Coach Sellas Tetteh who has been struggling for sometime now to assemble his preferred players ahead of the September 24 to October 16 tournament.
He will, however, miss the services of the Satellites skipper, Andre Dede Ayew, and his deputy, Ransford Osei, who are currently engaged in transfer negotiations with new clubs.
Osei signed a one-year deal with Dutch side, FC Twente, only yesterday, while Dede Ayew is still seeking for a new club after his recent release by Marseille.
The two key players are expected to rejoin the team in their final training tour of Qatar between September 1 and 15 before the African champions emplane straight to Egypt to contend with fellow Group D mates comprising Uzbekistan, England and Uruguay.
A makeshift Satellites team finished third and returned home with the Fair Play award in a five-nation tournament held in Egypt last week.
The Ghanaians lost 0-1 to Nigeria, beat Guatemala 3-0, lost 1-4 to hosts Egypt and beat Kenya 4-0 in that order.
