Accra, July 13, GNA – The Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has sent a congratulatory message to Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko for the successful defence of his International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight title last Saturday.

A statement signed by Mr William D. Ezah, acting General Secretary of SWAG said the victory over hard hitting Vic Darchinyan brings further joy to the entire public especially in these exciting moments.

The statement said Agbeko through the victory has once again demonstrated his determination and hunger for success.

It said the victory has also ensured that Ghana's name remains in the record books of international boxing as the only world champion from the country.

“It is our hope that you will remain focused, committed and dedicated to the cause of maintaining the title as long as possible.”

The statement said SWAG on its part will also ensure that Agbeko is given the needed support in terms of publicity and recognition.

It therefore urged other young and upcoming boxers to emulate the example of Agbeko who has throughout his career exhibited a mark of a serious boxer.
